Summer in the city.

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

I’ve been truly enjoying the amount of free concerts this city has to offer!  Today by far was one of my favorite collections at the park.  Himalayas, Cat Empire, and Brazilian Girls.  I was loving the brass sections and anytime the accordion is broken out-you know it’s good=)  Jon I thought of you!  Today I made a friend who was quite beautiful.  He is from Tunisia and has a beautiful accent and smile=)  We were thoroughly entertained by the young man in front of us dancing in his tighty whities with his cell phone tucked in and all of us collectively decided he had a sock or something stuffed-well anyway….It was freakin’ hilarious!  He’d get that booty shakin and there were 5 people around me that decided this was a picture/video worthy moment=)Ha!  You know you are jealous that you missed it!  All I have to say is how stinkin’ proud I am of the fact that I have never gotten lost in this crazy city.  I have gotten quite a handle on this town already baby!  Anyhoo, I have met some people with some nice smiles and sweet potential-ha!  No but really today just as I was getting out of my N station I saw the most beautiful baby and I smiled and waived-she just grinned from ear to ear and waived back.  It was sooo stinkin’ cute!  As much as I have had some let downs I still am up.  It takes a lot to bring this girl down!  Anyhoo, whosoever reads this I wish you well.

Peace.

Peaceful sweet slumber….

So my new home is soooo incredibly cozy. I have everything and then some at my fingertips. I am hangin at the McKinley Library up the street using my laptop. My community is predominantly Chinese and I love it! I am currently sharing a table with one young lady on her laptop and two young ones under the age of twelve=) I am so at home here. I haven’t gone much to Manhattan these past few days-partially because I have everything I need here and my work does not give me my unlimited metro card until next week! Tonight I meet up with some friends at the Aligator Lounge-my roommate and I share a love for the free pizza=)(And of course a good beer). Tomorrow I meet up with a friend on coop in fashion design. We are meeting at Cafe Lalo-our fav cafe. If you haven’t been there you must go-excellent deserts and great breakfast too. In my vacation time before the storm;-) I have been reading and writing quite a bit. It has been awesome.

I read this the other day and I found it quite striking….

“The unaffected heart is one of the dark misteries of human existence. It beats dispassionately in human beings with lazy minds, listless attitudes, unused talents, and buried hopes. …They never seem to get beneath the surface of their lives….Years wasted in vain regrets, energies dissipated in haphazard relationships and projects, emotions blunted, passive before whatever experiences the day brings, they are like snoring sleepers who resent having their peace disturbed.

The unaffected heart leaves a legacy of Disney World paraphernalia and a thousand lost golf balls. The sheer vacuity of the unlived life guarantees the person will never be missed. These people living on barrowed emotions, stumbling through corridors of time like shipboard drunks….never taste life deeply enough to be either saints or sinners”

I like what Brennan Manning had to say here-he kicks my butt!

Anyhoo, training starts next week and my first projects consist of some major grant writing. I am excited to dive into this work I will have set before me! I know once again I will be meeting some amazing people too.

Have a great one lovely people!
Peace.
